Ark Liberty
Published in Paperback by New American Library (April, 1992)
Author: Will Bradley
Average review score:

Great concept!
This is quite possibly what we are coming to in reality where the surface is hostile and mankind is forced to retreat to enclosed bubbles of safety. In this story, one such bubble is below the surface of the ocean trying to survive and remain sain for a many centuries. This is a very interesting and ultimately hopefull account of the strength of the human spirit.

Counselor: National Certification and State Licensing Preparation: CRC and Ncc
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (June, 1990)
Author: Leona H. Liberty
Average review score:

Good information, however, detail could be improved.
This book is intended to help counselors pass their NBCC and licensing exams. Information for the aforementioned exams is good, nevertheless, as a graduate instructor I don't believe it tells you nearly enough to pass your exam unless you really know it. It might for the CRC, that's a bit out of my expertise.

We recommend the ENCYCLOPEDIA OF COUNSELING, MASTER REVIEW AND TUTORIAL to our students by Dr. Howard Rosenthal, which is also stocked by Amazon Com. At the very least, if you decide to buy this book for NBCC/Licensing then supplement it with the ENCYCLOPEDIA.

All in all, the book is well-written and easy to follow and does contain good accurate information.

Ethnic Diversity, Liberty and the State: The African Dilemma (Shaftesbury Papers, 12)
Published in Paperback by Edward Elgar Pub (March, 1998)
Author: Mwangi S. Kimenyi
Average review score:

Refreshing tone, disappointing analysis
Few Africans today would not regard the state of African societies and their economies as regrettable and a serious embarrassment. After decades of costly struggle to rid themselves of the indignity of colonial domination, people in many African countries find themselves caught up in civil wars, brutal military or civilian dictatorships, economic degradation, and hopelessness. Even where there are semblances of parliamentary democracy, the requisite rule of law, freedom of the judiciary, the press, and association by individuals are often missing.

Kimenyi traces the African problem, or dilemma as he terms it, to the diversity of ethnic groups, many of which were forcibly and incongruously placed under common central governments by the Berlin Act of 1885. He concludes that the solution is to redraw the boundaries of African countries so that they become consistent with ethnic identities, because it is apparently impossible for different ethnic groups to live together....

Most of Kimenyi's analyses and suggestions appear superficial. For example, he urges the stipulation of constitutional civil liberties and a process of constitutional change as if no African constitution had ever contained such provisions. It would have been helpful to provide some textual examination of a few African constitutions to illustrate his claim. It might have emerged that the misperceived role of government as the creator of economic equality (rather than as the agent to create or maintain an enabling environment for individuals to pursue their own economic betterment) has been the primary cause of most civil strife and political tyranny in Africa and around the world. Thus Ghana, first in sub-Saharan Africa to attain political independence in 1957, has as its motto, "Freedom and Justice." Tragically, the independence arch that bears that inscription has been aptly referred to as the spot where freedom and justice were buried by the dictatorship of Kwame Nkrumah in the name of socialism....

For their endorsement of the redistributive state, academic leftists may be legitimately accused of complicity in creating the African dilemma, and no one should expect that they can now point the way to its resolution. Therefore, Kimenyi's efforts from the perspective of classical liberalism are a welcome addition to the literature. Unhappily, his analysis will disappoint many who share his philosophical perspective. It lacks depth and seriousness. Careful students of African society--its anthropology, economy, history, and politics--will find much to dislike in the book.

Solid book
Solid book though I'm not sure how much new ground it covers after reading Victory over the Darkness and The Bondage Breaker (both of which I'd recommend reading first).

Behind the Scenes
I love behind the scene sort of books and this was terrific as Garson Kanins books generally are. The best part in all honesty had to be Olivier and Leigh's "discussion" over Garbo.

Average review score:

Islam & the discovery of Freedomf
A brief and concise eye opener of the history of Islamic expansion, influence and its relationship to the recent times. A very good book for policy makers, televangelists, ordinary people with extraordinary hatred for Islam and Moslems. The book also helps the new and young generation of Americans who have been under the influences of the biassed media.

Legend of the Easter Egg (Liberty Letters)
Published in Hardcover by Zondervan Publishing Company (February, 2004)
Author: Lori Walburg
Average review score:

Endearing tale of Easter
In this historical fiction story about Easter, a young man learns the legend of the Easter egg and about his faith in Jesus.

Thomas asks his sister about the legend of the Easter egg while they do their chores. Unfortunately she doesn't get a chance to answer him before she gets Scarlet Fever. While staying with friends, he asks about Easter eggs. Thomas finds his answer and prays for the first time.

This endearing story is a great way to explain some of the symbols used to celebrate Easter to young children. A great book to add to the other collectable legend stories like The Legend of the Candy Cane.

Liberty and Community Canadian Federalism and the Failure of the Constitution: Canadian Federalism and the Failure of the Constitution
Published in Paperback by State Univ of New York Pr (January, 1991)
Author: Robert C. Vipond
Average review score:

A bit rough
Some of vipond's arguments are flimsy and easily torn to shreds. While the writing has a good feel to it overall I found the book hard to swallow...
